Statement on imposition of federal tariffs on Canada, China, and Mexico

Jessica Walker, President and CEO of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement on the Trump Administration's imposition of tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico:

“We are deeply concerned about the impact these tariffs will have on our local businesses considering the already high cost of living and doing business in New York.”

“We hope that this matter will be resolved quickly, as any sustained rift with our top trading partners will depress international tourism and foreign direct investments which would be very harmful for a global destination like New York. And because New York’s economy represents 8% of the United States’ total GDP, anything that hurts us ultimately hurts the entire country.”
